The blowing technique of the traditional Chinese instrument flute

1. The middle part of the first segment of the finger with the most flesh and elasticity is called the 'fingertip'. It is necessary to cultivate the use of this most ideal part to press the hole from the beginning. When making a hole, do not lift your fingers too high (about one finger thick is sufficient). Otherwise, changing fingers will affect the speed of playing.

2. How to make your fingers flexible? When playing, be sure to relax your fingers and wrists. Relax your hands in a semi fist like shape (i.e. slightly bend your fingers naturally), keeping your fingers in a natural and relaxed state at all times. When pressing the hole, it should also be relaxed and elastic, without tension or excessive force, to avoid stiff fingers that affect flexibility.

3. Although the thumbs and little fingers of both hands do not press the holes, they must support the flute body and actively cooperate.

4. Among the ten fingers, the ring finger has the poorest flexibility and slower response. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen training to make its joints relaxed and flexible.
